The job of the Comité Technique Permanent de la Sélection (The Permanent Technical Committee for plant breeding) (C.T.P.S.) is to manage the official catalogue of species and varieties of cultivated plants. It makes proposals to the Ministry for the registration of new varieties.
The technical study for the evaluation of these varieties is carried out by the Groupe d'Etude et de Contrôle des Variétés et des Semences (Group for the Study and Inspection of Varieties and Seeds) (GEVES).
The varieties are registered when they have passed compulsory tests for Distinctiveness, Uniformity and Stability (D.U.S.) and tests for Valeur Agronomique et Technologique (Value for Cultivation and Use) (V.C.U.).
The C.T.P.S. brings technical expertise to the problems associated with the production of seeds and especially for the development of technical regulations.
